Real Life: Making English Learning More Meaningful

Not all secondary students are motivated and eager to learn English. Likewise, some students need more support to progress and achieve in the “érettségi”. This session will look at how to make our teaching more meaningful to these students. We will explore the opportunities presented by task-based learning, and will try to uncover some of the ways of providing learners with input which helps them to learn the language and its uses simultaneously.

The presenter's bio data

Douglas Allan was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1964. He almost became a coal miner like generations of his forefathers. However, after graduating from Stirling University in 1987, he took up teaching English and Music in a rural school in the Highlands. Since then he has been lucky enough to have classroom experiences in Kenya, Mongolia, Hungary and Saudi Arabia as well as be involved in the training of over 10,000 teachers in 25 countries.
